$1000 ENERGYWISE™ Heat Pump Water Heating Grant

The Government are currently providing a rebate of $1,000 off the cost of your hot water heatpump. This is paid in two instalments - $500 when your hot water heatpump is installed and the final $500 three months later. This subsidy is not means tested and is available until September 2009, with the expectation that this will be extended through until at least the end of the year. HAS are available to help fill out forms and take you through this rebate process. If you would like any additional information please call or email us.

Heatpumps are now a popular means of heating New Zealand homes and offices. The same technology can also be used to heat water. In most cases, heatpump water heaters will use less energy than conventional heating, produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions and save you money (Source: EECA Energywise Website).

Why choose a heat pump water heater?
Heatpump water heaters use about half the electricity that a conventional electric hot water tank does. They can work well in places that aren’t good for solar water heaters – places that get less sun like the south side of hills. Heatpump water heaters can be installed in both new and existing buildings.

Saving money with heat pump water heating
Heatpump water heating systems cost between $5,000 and $7,000 to buy and install, compared to $1,500 to $3000 for a traditional electric hot water tank. But the average home of four people could save around $400 a year on electricity bills using a heatpump water heater compared to the electric hot water tank.

Consent requirements
Depending upon which local authority area your home is in, it is likely that you will require a building consent to install a heatpump water heater. Check with your local District or City Council for more details on the rules in your area or just ask the friendly HAS team. If you live within the Hamilton City boundaries, the Hamilton City Council require a building consent if you are moving your existing hot water cylinder. The cost of this building consent is approximately $250 and takes around 21 days. HAS can take care of this process for you – just ask.
